Abstract
Background
Nowadays, digital dentistry is a fundamental skill that dentists need to acquire at this time. The digital workflow has gained acceptance and is widely used in most disciplines of dentistry.
The aim of this work is to review some timeless concepts of smile designing in aesthetic dentistry and discusses step-by-step techniques for incorporating digital technology into the smile design process and to shows its, advantages, limitations and future prospects.
Digital Smile Design is a multipurpose digital tool with clinically relevant advantages: It can strengthen esthetic diagnostic abilities, improve communication between team members, help organize treatment planning, create predictable systems throughout treatment phases, enhance patients' education and motivation, a patient constantly doubting the end result of the dental treatment, which is an irreversible procedure, can be motivated and educated through Digital Smile Designing (DSD) technique, It helps in visual communication and involvement of the patients in their own smile design process, thus ensuring predictable treatment outcome and increasing case acceptance.
Conclusion
DSD is an extremely useful tool for patient motivation and interdisciplinary as well as laboratory communication. It is a valuable tool for future treatment planning to achieve a desirable esthetic smile.
